Common Terms
You'll run across these terms with virtually every cocktail
Shake with ice
I usually completely fill the smaller tin with ice before I shake a cocktail. The longer you shake, the colder the drink gets and the more ice melts into the drink. Filling the smaller tin with ice will make your drink ice-cold without diluting it too much. If your drink is too weak, try shaking for less time.
Pour immediately after shaking so your drink isn't watered-down.
Strain
This is how you use a cocktail strainer to pour a drink. You can also use a small fine mesh strainer if you don't have a cocktail strainer.
Double strain through a fine mesh sieve
This is how you use a sieve to double strain your cocktails. Double straining removes ice chips and any bits of things you've muddled
Part
How much is a "part?" It is any amount you want, but be consistent. If a drink calls for 2 parts this, 1 part that and 1/2 part the other, and you choose ounces as your amount for each part, you'd use 2 oz of this, 1 oz of that, and 1/2 oz of the other.
